Our systems deliver unprecedented speed and accuracy, enabling industries to accomplish manufacturing feats that were previously out of reach.
Team of founders
The founding team around industry-experienced CEO Bernhard Küenburg can look back on more than ten years of experience in the field of multiphoton polymerization. CTO Peter Gruber and CSO Aleksandr Ovsianikov, with their extensive research background at TU Wien, have pioneered the development of multiple generations of high-resolution 3D printing systems. COO Denise Hirner joined the founding team with a background in materials and applications, utilizing the developed systems for lab-on-a-chip applications. Research focus and one of today’s unique selling points of the NanoOne printing platform is high-resolution bioprinting – 3D printing with living cells and thereby facilitating the combination of polymer material and cell research. All of this is made possible by the unmatched speed and technology of the system.
Our management team
2PP-3D printing has been transitioned from research labs to an industrially deployed tool for manufacturing polymeric micro-components by the unmatched printing speed, revolutionizing manufacturing possibilities across industries such as med-tech, optics, and consumer electronics.
Since its founding in 2018, we have successfully built a globally operating high-tech company with the help of highly qualified employees from diverse educational backgrounds. As a globally operating company headquartered in Vienna, Austria, with a branch office in Boston, United States, we have installed systems at renowned industry leaders and leading research institutions from the West Coast of the United States to Australia.
In high-resolution 3D printing, the interplay between hardware, software, and resins has been and continues to be the key to producing reproducible and scalable micro-components. This concept has been reflected in our company structure and product portfolio from the very beginning. Despite this complexity, UpNano is a scalable company that invests more than 30% of its annual revenue in the development of new technology each year, in line with the company’s vision to establish high-resolution 3D printing based on two-photon polymerization as an industrial manufacturing method.

Welcome to our website, and THANK YOU for joining us on this journey.
As the CEO and one of the co-founders of UpNano, it gives me immense pleasure to offer you a glimpse into our world.
First and foremost, I want to emphasize that UpNano thrives on the expertise and dedication of an exceptional team of passionate experts. It’s this remarkable team that has propelled us to become a key player in the field of 2PP-3D printing within just five years! It’s this same team that has forged partnerships with leading universities and companies worldwide, collaborating with them as peers. With our dedicated team, we aim to deliver cutting edge 2PP technology, providing unparalleled support for your scientific and commercial micro and nanofabrication projects. We’re committed to collaborating closely with you, providing support at every stage of the process.
“At UpNano, excellence is not just a goal – it’s our standard. And we’re thrilled to have you on board as we continue to push the boundaries of high-resolution 3D printing.”
We strongly believe in the superiority of 2PP technology. Among all 3D printing technologies, we firmly believe that two-photon polymerization stands out as the most precise, flexible and reliable option. Just consider its incredible volume coverage, spanning from 400 nm3 to 40 mm3 – a range exceeding 15 logarithmic steps! To put it into perspective, a typical high-quality SLA printer covers a volume range of 6 to 7 log steps. Our 2PP systems encompass a volume range a billion times larger than that of average 3D printers – a fact that truly stretches the limits of imagination.
The unrivaled speed of our print technology isn’t just groundbreaking for prototyping; it opens the door to scaling up and commercially manufacturing of high-precision micro-components. While other technologies struggle to achieve industry standard CP values above 1.5, we effortlessly reach CP values of 15 and beyond within similar print times. And when others grapple with the mechanical properties of their materials, we’ve pioneered methods for adapting standard ISO tests to the micro universe. At UpNano, we understand the exacting standards of manufacturing, and we’re fully equipped to deliver.
We look forward to hearing from you and inviting you to visit our application labs in our headquarters in Vienna (Austria) or in our US subsidiary in Cambridge (MA).
Sincerely, Bernhard Küenburg
